If you have a few extra minutes today, I encourage you to read all 22 verses of Psalms Chapter 34. Out loud even. It is one of the comforting Psalms we can turn to when life gets too heavy.
I don't know about you, but I am far from righteous. However, I have noticed that the harder I seek God the more things that jump out at me in this life which are clearly trying to get in the way of my path towards God. Many afflictions, many distractions, many challenges, many distractions. I am so thankful to God for His peaceful, calming promises in His Word.
In verse 4, God reminds us He delivers us from all of our fears. Fear is not something that comes from God. II Timothy 1:7 reminds us of this. Even still, He does not leave us alone when we fall prey to our fears. He clearly tells us through His Word, over and over, that He will deliver us from all evil - including our fears.
In verse 6, God tells us again that He saves us when we cry out to Him! Verse 15 says, "the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry." There's that word, "righteous," again. As I started out saying, I definitely do not feel righteous. Our pastor constantly reminds us that the process of sanctification that God is working in us is a lifeling journey.
I have 2 thoughts on righteousness. First is that because we are all born into sin, we can never achieve righteousness. It's the cold, hard truth. That's the law. "All have sinned and fallen short."
FEAR NOT! My friends my second thought on righteousness is full of the grace of the Gospel. Through Christ, His blood, His sacrifice on the cross, we are all made righteous by God's grace. Our salvation means each time we repent - and we all need to do this often, at least I know that I do! - we are made righteous by God through Christ!
So today's verse, today's Psalm, is all about you! And me, and each and every child of God! His grace is abounding in mercy, and because we are made righteous by way of the cross He will always deliver us from all of our afflictions. It might not be in our timing, but have faith, trust in His perfect promises, He will not let you down.
Be blessed and be the blessing my beloved bothers and sisters in Christ.
