Slow Down for Peace

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I am hesitant to recommend the below show reading plan as I do not prefer the obscure words the author sometimes uses. However, the message it is trying to deliver is so important. I’m still studying the Bible, still learning every day from it…and I’m three full months into a One Year journey to read the entire Bible. I have not yet read specifically, “God says hurry is evil and slow is good.” Still, when you delve into the experiences of God’s people, when they got in a hurry for things to happen they tended to get impatient. That impatience would lead to grumbling. Grumbling was a sign to God that His people did not fully trust in Him. This made Him angry because He had such an amazing plan, if only His people would slow down, and patiently wait for Him to carefully prepare the path! And the next thing you know thousands of Israelites died in the desert, until everyone who grumbled and distrusted the plan was gone. Only their descendants would occupy the land promised to their ancestors. Fast forward to the New Testament… Jesus showed His patience, His slow, deliberate patience with the world over and over again. And what did we do? Well we’ll get to that in a few days, but spoiler alert in case you are new here: we should all be ashamed of the way we repaid Jesus for His love, peace, and His slow, steady patience. Time and again He shows us that we don’t have to be in a rush in order to do what He is calling us to do. In fact, when we hurry we tend to distance ourselves from Him, and from His plans for our prosperity. Every time we rush we are opening ourselves up to the temptation of impatience and grumbling. Let’s take time, on this glorious Lord’s Day, to slow down. I’m confident that when we do, God will flood us with His perfect peace. And that, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, is definitely worth it!

I’m not writing my own prayer for this ‘Thoughts’ today. I encourage you to pray the Lord’s Prayer before and after you slow down to accept His peace today. May God bless you abundantly so you can #betheblessing.
