On Heaven’s Time
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”” Revelation 21:4
I was listening to Christian music and Homesick for Heaven by Phil Wickham came on. The line about walking with Moses on streets of gold hit me with a new thought. A thought about Chronos versus Kairos time and how it might relate to heaven.
We know that God is not restricted by Chronos (chronological) time as we are. We also know that we were created in His image - perfect beings until the whole fruit on the tree in the Garden thing happened. We also know that when our time on earth is done, we will be restored to our full, complete, perfect being that God always intended for us to be.
That got me wondering if we will stop being restricted by Chronological time once we get to heaven… I have no idea how theologically broken this thought is. I don’t have any Bible verses that put this into words the way I started picturing it yesterday afternoon.
I started thinking about my grandparents, and perhaps when I get to heaven for them it will be a blink of an eye between their arrival and mine. I also thought of the cool people from the Bible that will be there. We all lived such different lives, spoke different languages, experienced different cultures…yet, I wonder will we somehow all just “understand” as we swap stories?
I know heaven will be better than we can possibly imagine, and we will be in the glorious presence of God - which honestly the older I get the more I cannot wait for this! Will I think about my kids and grandkids once I arrive? Will I look for them time and again? Or will Kairos time make it seem as though I didn’t have to wait at all?
We know there will be no more tears, pain, sorrow, etc. so I kind of hope that means that some version of this new picture of heaven I pondered today will be in play. Better, perfect, and perhaps Kairos.
